The same bulb design has been GE color effects, color effects and iTwinkle. Was not fun I ended up taking it all back to Target after Christmas for a refund.īasically what I'm getting at it I would plug them in turn them on and leave them on for several hours a day before you try to actaully do something with them. The Thrid brain I got them up on the house and the were erratic and I ended up having to replaced entire sets of strings 3 times till the finally all quit again. Then Phillips sent me a new brain and I exchanged it. The problem is they were not cheap even for black friday. Lots of patters and colors and you could set any custom colors and patterns.

The brain has a iOS and Android app that lets you control the lights and put music to them. Essentially you get a Brain (that acts like a hot spot) and you can connect LED Strings to the brain. These were sold last year any many places (I got some from Target on black Friday).
Hopefully they are better then the Philips Illuminate Light sets. Anyone have pointers on how/if they can be controlled from a real computer? I searched around the net and can't seem to find anyone else who's talking about this variety of light. Next, I associated a computer to the strand (thinking it might be able to do more sophisticated controlling) and I can see the controller running at 192.168.1.101 and with the only open port at 62078 (this is up in what's normally considered the emphemeral range so it might change with each boot - not sure) but that's about as far as I've made it. I plugged them in and the controller advertises itself as a WiFi hotspot (iTwinkle WiFI 01) which you can associate your phone with (after installing the app) and control. I'm guessing the bulbs are the same as the older strings but the add-on of WiFi is what caught my eye. I thought these might be interesting to work with. I was in my local Costco this weekend and picked up a string of lights marketed under the GE name as "36 Color Changing Lights" with WiFi control for about $50.
